After the Rain

Fresh and ready after the rain
You wake from waxen, heavy sleep
Of years on years of thank you thoughts
And understandings, deep.

Your wicker face has folds,
wriggles at the smell of afternoon rain
On an unfamiliar morning.
Cold wind on tissue paper skin
Dances beautifully across your face

Clouds obscure the sky.
After sin, the rain is cleansing,
Bringing growth and newness to the solid ground
That holds, menacing, beneath your feet.

  1. Rashpal Saini - oooo love it, was this from QM days? Love the conflict between cleanliness and wikedness: "Bringing growth and newness to the solid ground That holds, menacing, beneath your feet"

  3. Thanks Dee gee bee, that's a favourite of mine too. It's actually something I wrote a few years ago, one of those that seems to fall out of you in one go, it was so real and raw to me I've never had the heart to edit it.
